Based on our video analysis, class discussions, and readings, one could determine the main points of privatization vs. school choice. It could be concluded that school choice gives the parents’ the ability to decide where their child will receive their education. This choice would include funding from the student towards the school, therefore, schools with more funding will attract more individuals while giving that particular school a greater amount of wealth. Different schools would have to compete for more students because if parents choose not to send their children to a particular school, that school would have no choice but to shut down. Closings of public schools happen for this reason, as these schools with less funding don’t have enough students or money to run their district. This could potentially lead to the privatization of schools and put an end to public school education. Some individuals may find privatization appealing as they believe that public schools have struggled to properly educate areas of low-income and believe that school choice provides their children with access to a better education.

Personally, I am a firm believer in school choice because I feel that parents should be able to decide where they want to send their children. I also feel that the competition aspect will increase a school’s likelihood to increase academic performance of their students in order to attract more. I also believe that school choice will give those in low income areas access to better educational opportunities. Without school choice children from these areas could become tied down to a low performing school district, which could have a detrimental impact on their future and education as a whole. School choice decreases segregation and increases educational opportunities in a district, so I find it to be a win-win situation. Without school choice, I feel that students won’t always have access to the education that they deserve which is why I find this choice vital for success.
